Am I crazy?

I’ve been with my now fiancé almost 7 years. We’ve lived together (renting) for 5. I have a daughter from a previous relationship he’s helped raise since she was 3 and we just had a baby together (baby was planned). We recently got engaged, yay! Anyway people keep asking me if we’ve picked a wedding date yet and look at me funny when I say no. We want to buy a house. Even his parents ask every time we see them about a wedding. I just don’t understand the rush? Am I crazy for wanting to wait & buy a house first?

I totally agree a house is important!
But for me marriage would come first. It doesn’t have to be a big expensive wedding. Just a small celebration of love, exchange rings, sort out your last name ( if you wish to change it) 
And than buy a home as a married couple

I think u should marry before making a grand purchase. Marrying is more important since u hv a baby and want to make a grand purchase. And when i say marrying im not referring to wedding. Im talking about legally merging.

If your priorities are elsewhere, I just wouldn’t have a wedding. Life isn’t going to get any easier for either of you and will only get harder with 2 kids, house hunting, then anything you have going on with your new house, etc. Life doesn’t stop and there won’t ever be a perfect time to plan a wedding with 2 kids and house hunting. I’d either plan something small for just close family and friends or go to the courthouse.

Youre not crazy, but to me I wouldnt have gotten engaged to then wait to get married. I feel like engagement means yes we are getting married vs yeah we will get to it at some point, so I would do a small wedding enough that we can still get the house. But everyone has their own priorities and paths, that doesnt make you crazy though.

Your priorities don’t align with societal norms, and that’s okay. I also don’t think weddings need to be extravagant though. You could elope/courthouse or do a small wedding. The people asking might be thinking because you have children why the wait on marriage and neither of you would be wrong.

You’re not crazy. I’ve been with my fiancé for 8-9 years. We purchased a house, had a baby, then got engaged, purchased a 2nd home, and now are expecting twins. We have zero plans to have a wedding anytime soon. Maybe our 10 year date-anniversary we’ll elope?? We could care less about a big wedding/show for everyone else/social media. Seems like a waste of time/money/stress if I’m being completely honest. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Everyone has their own, unique timelines and expectations for their own relationships. Do whatever works for you. People will eventually stop asking/pressuring you.
