Rude extended family

We were talking about my dog who is a wonderful, but characteristically mischievous, beagle boy. Stolen mountain bottle picture submitted as evidence:

Hes pretty good. He tends to bark over at their house because he gets excited there's so many people, but he's learning how to better play with every visit (its my in laws)

Anyway, there's an aunt that lives there that we've both had problems with. She often tends to make Snyder comments but she's usually likes to try and hide how rude she is in layered comments. The conversation died down, and later I was playing with him on the floor while she's alone with me and doggie in the room

She says "I thought you'd be the kind to adopt a dog from the pound"

I talked about how I'd love to add a pound puppy someday, but as this doggie was partly a long awaited gift for my husband for graduating his masters program. Since he was in his career we could get housing that allows pets. We've waited years for this moment. This breed is my husband's favorite and it was just the perfect time as we had some time before his start date.

She said, "well yeah I figured he'd do that, but I thought you'd be more compassionate than that. You know wasting money on a new puppy instead of adopting one. Its a shame."

I am so mad and frustrated. She keeps making snide comments about our dog, acting all mad that he wasn't perfectly trained at 4 months when we visited. She doesn't own the home, pay rent, anything like that. She's not had a dog or a cat, who is she to make comments on that?

Honestly we've had three miscarriages. We may never have a biological child. It may be weird but getting a fresh puppy may be the closest I ever get to having a baby. We want to foster and possibly adopt from foster system as well. Most people avoid older kids, but we want to be open to all ages. We won't likely have a young baby and I wanted an experience like that at least once. Not that the other experiences are any less wonderful, but I wanted something similar at least once. Maybe thats why I feel so offended. As if getting my beautiful doggie was some horrible coldhearted thing, even though we plan on rescuing doggies later. It'll probably specifically those used in cosmetic testing, since beagles are often used for that.
