Harassment from strangers
Last night my partner and I went out for a drive after dinner. It was in the 70*s yesterday so we took his muscle car out for a drive and were having a good time talking listening to music. On way back, at about 10 pm we hit a construction zone and the 4 lane highway was narrowed down to 1 lane, I think they were patching potholes. Traffic slowed to about 40mph for like 10 miles. Suddenly the car behind us started flashing their high beams swerving and honking at us. This obviously irritated my boyfriend and as soon as the construction zone ended he took of speeding away from the lunatic behind us. This guy chased us weaving through traffic. We got stuck behind slower traffic as we came up on our exit, He pulled up next to us honking again. My boyfriend rolled down his window and shouted expletives at his guy asking what the f*ck was his problem was. His reply? "Dude that's an awesome car bro" this idiot chased us through traffic aggressively just to say he liked our car. Wtf? We got off the highway and away from this idiot and that's when I started laughing.
My boyfriend was confused, then I pointed out his car has given him a taste of what a lot of women have to deal with daily. Being harassed by strangers "just trying to give a compliment" and making you feel unsafe and trying to make you feel bad when you rebuff them. I then pointed out that some might even make the arguement that "why are you driving that if you don't want the attention?" This isn't the first time he's complained, he's had strangers corner him to talk at the gas station to talk or trying to race on the highway.
Perhaps this is a good analogy to use in the future for guys who just don't get why their behavior is unacceptable. What do you guys think?
