Could use some input on hair…
I know there’s a lot of ladies on here who know quite a bit about hair so looking for a little input- might be a bit long trying to explain…
In January I went in for a blowout and a color. I’ve been getting my hair fairly heavily highlighted for awhile. My last appointment was my first time getting a blowout, and I had decided I wanted to go switch to more of a shadow root/balayage - end goal was to keep the brightness in my lengths but soften everything at my roots to my natural color so my hair can grow in more subtly and let me go a little longer between color sessions. My friend/hair stylist is great and she fully knows what my overall goal is. Her plan was to apply some brown at my root area to soften the outgrowth line of my highlights, touch up the lighter blonde, and then she worked through just a bit of the brown to give things a little more dimension. She let me know in advance that the blowout would lighten the brown a bit. I’m not wanting to go too dark anyway, and I knew it wouldn’t be 100% where we want it after just the one appointment. When my blowout was done, the brown she applied has lightened more than she expected and had some warmth to it - my hair has ALWAYS pulled warm, but I prefer ashy tones and my natural color is a very cool (almost mousy) light brown. No big deal - knew it wouldn’t be perfect and she said she could always darken the roots a bit after a couple weeks if necessary.
It’s been almost 12 weeks since I had it colored and the brown has faded to a point that I don’t know how much longer I can stand it. It’s faded to this SUPER warm, kind of copper, color that I absolutely hate. There’s an obvious line of outgrowth between that copper color and my natural color, which is one of the biggest things I’m trying to eliminate. I have a pretty tinted purple shampoo, that’s done nothing. Even tried a blue one, still won’t tone down this copper. I normally go about 16 weeks between colors but I don’t know how much longer I can look at it 😂
I’ll include some pictures but what I’m wondering is - is there anything I can do to tone this (without darkening my lighter pieces) and stretch out my color, or do I need to just bite the bullet and get it colored again? If getting it colored is the only option, is there going to be a way for her to get the warmth out of all those darker areas? I trust her and I know she’ll lead me in the right direction but she’s been out of town with her daughters sports tournaments and has been too busy to really get into the nitty gritty details with me.

And here’s some that I had for inspiration of what I’m going for:
