Why does Elon musk care so much about Twitter ?

Why not spend that money on a new platform instead of buying Twitter ? What am I missing here? Why would he pay so much when he can do something else or create something else

Google is free. You can easily find this info, but I got you. He actually did an entire TED talk on that, the future of Tesla, and the way his brain works. 
This is from an NPR article posted just yesterday: ‘“I invested in Twitter as I believe in its potential to be the platform for free speech around the globe, and I believe free speech is a societal imperative for a functioning democracy," he wrote in a letter to Twitter chairman Bret Taylor. "However, since making my investment I now realize the company will neither thrive nor serve this societal imperative in its current form.”’
“Musk has described himself as a "free speech absolutist" and has been critical of Twitter's rules about what people are allowed to say on the site.”
I love Elon Musk and I hope he acquires it. 😘

I’m assuming he believes it’s too heavily moderated and people are silenced/canceled on there—maybe an infringement on free speech.  I don’t know.

Companies change hands all the time. He's not doing anything out of the ordinary.

I think it’s smart of him to make this move because it will be a win-win situation for him. 
One scenario, he buys Twitter and fixes it. OR he tanks Twitter stock and builds his own platform. Either way it benefits him.
