Period during my active birth control pills, is this normal?

I started taking the pill about 2 months ago, and it’s the kind that has 3 weeks instead of 4 and you immediately start the next pack if you want to skip your period, so that’s what i’ve been doing since February.

this past week i have been cramping terribly, and even noticed i was spotting. i thought it was breakthrough bleeding from not having a period in 2 months, but this morning i bled through my clothes and when i went to the bathroom it was like a normal amount of period blood.

i still have 3 more active pills left before i would be on my “placebo week” so i’m just confused as to why my period started so early while i was still on an active pill week. any advice or help would be appreciated.
