Ear wax removal?

I have an appointment for ear syringing in a couple of weeks and I have been told try and soften the wax by using ear drops, in the past these have irritated and hurt my ears, are there any other natural ways I can try and soften them?  Warm water, steam, heat bottle etc?? Anyone tried anything other than ear drops??

Make sure to warm the bottle in your hand or pocket before putting the drops in your ear. They always irritate mine too especially because if there is enough wax it tends to get trapped. Its unlikely anything else is going to soften the wax. It’s usually a combination of oil and hydrogen peroxide in the drops. Water is not likely to do much.
