Road Trip Recommendations!

Our kids will be 2 and 4 when we road trip 1200 miles (17 hours) this summer. Looking for recommendations to keep them entertained!

We’re breaking the drive up over two days, so about 8.5 hours each day. We plan to stop after four hours of driving for an hour of picnic lunch and play (at a local park or some other type of tourist location to expel some energy).

They both enjoy music, but I’d rather not stream Pandora for that many hours. Anyone know a cheap or free way to download songs?

4 year old:

- forward facing

- Amazon fire tablet. We’re getting him headphones for his birthday and can download some shows. But we don’t like a lot of screen time - his tablet hasn’t even left the house yet (got it for Christmas).

- Melissa and Doug water wow

- fidgets (popper and wacky track)

- books and stuffed animals

2 year old:

- rear facing

- she likes to watch shows, but not sure how to make that work when they’re facing different directions. She also likely won’t keep headphones on.

What else could we purchase or have for them? I’m considering a car seat desk for our oldest, but I’m not sure if it would be overkill. They’re both usually fine in the car, and we’ve done 4 hour drives without issues before, but I’m worried about the second 4 hour stretch and then the next day of the same.
