I hate lactation nurses
I’ve had horrible experiences every time!
My first daughter I desperately wanted to breastfeed. Lactation nurse stopped by and scolded me for how I (a first time mom) was holding her to feed. Made fun of my husband and I for asking basic questions…or bringing up concerns. Told us she had a tongue tie (multiple pediatricians confirmed she did NOT) Then left us on our own as i was sobbing. We immediately chose to formula feed.
My second daughter they told me I need a shield. (I didnt) . Told me baby had both tongue and lip tie. (Pediatrics confirmed she did NOT) so again feeling defeated we formula fed.
My third daughter i was determined to pump exclusively as formula shortages are happening. They gave me a shield and left. Told me nothing about nipple balm/creams I’d need. Nothing about a supply or pumping. No techniques. Nothing. After speaking to many BF moms, joining groups, and a lot of googling I got baby to latch with ease and build a supply.
Just ranting here, I’m sure many other lactation nurses are better than ones I’ve had but no one helped me. My advice especially to first time moms is always get a second, third, and maybe fourth opinion.
