sorry but 15 minutes of my times is 15 minutes i’m at home with my toddler eating breakfast. 15 minutes of free work in this economy? no.
i told my manager i can be here 15 minutes early but i’m not doing anything unless i can clock in and get paid. if i’m not getting paid then no i will be in the back doing what i want to do.

I wouldn’t even offer to get there 15 mins early and not do anything. If they aren’t willing to pay you for your extra time, they don’t get to dictate that you show up any earlier.

My lead teacher at a former job tried to make me volunteer my time before clocking in and I refused. I wanted to finish my breakfast as it was MY time. She even made me cry in front of the children! I reported her to the director, who was 100% in agreement with me. Other girls in my position CHOSE to volunteer their free time. I did not. I firmly held to the belief that if they wanted me to work, they'll pay me. It is absolutely illegal to force someone to volunteer on their time off.

Why are you being asked to come in 15 minutes early? When you show up directly on time for your shift, are you spending 15 minutes doing whatever to get ready for your work duties?

If you work on a salary, yes.  And even as a fitness instructor (hourly wage) I'd have to get there early to set up.  You can't just walk in and be ready to perform in the same minute.  And believe me, people EXPECT you to start your class on time, they don't play.  
So for some jobs, yes but for most hourly workers, it makes sense to get there 5 mins early just to put your stuff down before you begin your day.

Nope. I clock in when I arrive and clock out when I leave. I charge 15 minutes for any phone call I get when I am not on the clock. I don’t work for free.

I always use turn up 10/15 minutes early I need that time to make a coffee , start my computer and get everything ready for me to be able to do my job - your supposed to be actually ready to start working when your time is to clock on it’s called being prepared and professional- I also have a toddler/children

Lol I work in a care home and my shift starts at 7am, I show up at 6:58 most days.  If I show up early, I sit in the computer chair and chat until 7.
