Question

Hello ladies has anyone had an yeast infection and uti at the same time during pregnancy? I just cleared the bv I had and now I have uti and yeast infection kind of nervous I pray this doesn’t mess with baby! Anyone with similar experience?

I’ve battled BV since the moment I’ve gotten pregnant and I’m 30 weeks. I’ve also had a yeast infection along with it. I’ve been on many types of meds for both infections and I’ve been doing fine and so has baby! Treating the infections are very important. I started wearing no underwear at home, baggy pants at home, cotton underwear when I do wear it, eating yogurt daily, and take a woman’s probiotic.

The yeast infection and the UTI are directly related to the BV and antibiotics you were on. Essentially, the BV was caused by changes in your pH related to pregnancy… then the antibiotics for the BV further affected the flora in the vagina and caused a yeast overgrowth. All of the bacterial and pH changes can also put you at an even higher risk for UTIs, which you’re already at a higher risk for since you’re pregnant. As long as you keep up with treatment, baby should be fine. BV can be tough to get rid of (I’m going through it right now at 23 weeks). Firstly, are you sure you’ve cleared that infection? Did they reswab you to confirm the infection is gone and that this is now yeast-related? BV can also cause stinging on urination. Have you had a urine culture to definitively diagnose the UTI? I highly, highly recommend adding a probiotic to your daily regimen. That should help tremendously. Garden of Life makes one specifically for pregnancy. Also, make sure you’re “airing out” down below. That’s part of my problem for sure— I’m grossed out by all the extra pregnancy discharge and now the BV discharge so I’m forever wearing undies and pantiliners and not giving my lady parts a chance to breathe… that can make for a yeast and bacteria-friendly environment too.
