Help: Licorice root in herbal tea?

Has anyone’s dr told them to avoid tea with licorice root in it? The only ginger lemon tea I can find all has it listed as one of the herbs in the blend. All over the internet it says to avoid when pregnant but I wonder if that (culinary) amount would be ok. Asking b/c I don’t have an ob/gyn yet, 1st appt in a few weeks :)

Avid tea drinker here, I did not drink this while pregnant.  If it says to avoid it I would, there are others to avoid also.  I tried other herbal teas and enjoyed them.

I don’t know if this is the reason, but it can raise blood pressure and lower potassium. My dad almost died from licorice poisoning when he was taking capsules for GERD. Of course that was a much higher amount, but might be why they want to avoid it in pregnancy.

Thanks ladies. I heard it can cause preterm birth/miscarriage and also IQ problems, but everything I saw seemed to suggest it was ONLY in large or very frequent amounts. Still, I’m going to play it safe as I’m only 7 wks, always want to be careful ❤️ Just wanted to check and make sure it wasn’t like one it those “don’t ever eat ANY lunch meat, EVER, when pregnant!” things, lol 😂
