i hate these apartments! it’s been weeks and weeks since i’ve been reporting the walls leaking onto our carpet and causing mold along with our ac not working and they have yet to come out… im so tired of being here they aren’t listening i told them i can’t have my baby breathing this and the lady in the office agreed but still never sent anyone out & my baby is now sick he’s only a month and my heart hurts for him💔i live in texas idk if that plays a role in anything about the lease

Omg! Tell them tomorrow ASAP you’re going to call the AHA (American housing association) and the state if they don’t bring someone to fix it that same day! Do you have proof that you placed multiple service requests in? They can’t deny it if you do have that. That’s inhabitable!

Look into the laws for your state & read over your lease agreement. 
In Cali & we had a horrible mold problem at our last apartment. Because of the mold, which we told them about multiple times & they never fixed, we were legally allowed to break the lease with no notice. Our landlord “required” 3 months notice, but because of the mold we didn’t have to give notice (advice given to me by a lawyer)

I’m in Texas and my old neighbor at our last apartment was able to get out her lease due to mold and the apartment ignoring it. You can report them and you can do a free consultation with a lawyer to ask about your specific rights. Apartments for some reason think we won’t research stuff or something

Yep like the other posted commented you can in Ohio at least withhold your rent completely or deduct price from your rent! However, mold is pretty serious I think you would have the right to break it. I would be contacting a lawyer esp bc you have a baby!

Call DHS and report this. Call anywhere you can and report this. The apartment may fight you breaking a lease but this isn't safe for you or baby so you must get out. They can't force you to stay there and can't force you to continue paying once you have moved out and shut off all utilities. Keep all of the photos for evidence and if you have copies of maintenance requests keep them too in case this goes to court. Read through your lease agreement and maybe call a lawyer just to make sure the apartment can't take any legal action if you pay your rent for the month and just move out for safety and health concerns. I've broken a lease twice and explained the situation to the apartment manager, paid rent and left and never heard from them again. Usually when you move into an apartment you pay first and last months rent and a security deposit which a lot of times covers the tennant for breaking lease.

I got out of a lease this way only 2 months in because I contacted the actual company that owned the property with pictures like these and threatened to report. There was a leak from the neighbors water heater and they only sprayed paint over it so it continued to grow. I'd honestly get out of this lease and find a safe place to live for you and your baby. If there's no parent company, contact the property manager and threaten legal action.

I would also make sure you get all deposits and upfront rent back. You cannot legally rent a place that is dangerous- landlords have basic duties and this is one of them. I hate landlords with a passion- just rich people exploiting those without funds for a down payment and mortgage
