Zoloft while pregnant ?

So I’ve been taking 100mg but when I found out I was pregnant my doctor advised me to stop. I went in today because I can’t handle it anymore and she’s having me take 50mg again.. I’m nervous cause I’ve read a lot of mixed research on the internet and I’m only 6 weeks. Does anyone on here have experience taking Zoloft while pregnant?

Do. Not. Stop… especially cold-turkey (which is SUPER dangerous) and not while under the close supervision of a physician who knows how to properly taper these medications (like a psychiatrist). Your OB gave you poor advice for several reasons— 1) if you’re prone to anxiety and/or depression (which I’m assuming you are since you’re on an SSRI), trying to stop during pregnancy is literally the WORST time to do so with the raging hormones and can make anxiety/depression a million times worse for the rest of the pregnancy and put you at a higher risk for PP mood disorders, 2) Zoloft is one of the safest SSRIs during pregnancy and while breastfeeding, and 3) studies show a medicated and mentally stable mom makes for a healthier and happier child. A mom who is unmedicated and mentally unhealthy is way more likely to have a poorly adjusted child with behavioral issues. My psychiatrist showed me these studies when I was pregnant with my first and super anxious to remain on Zoloft because of my recurrent losses and unexplained infertility, and all turned out just fine! I also breastfed him for a year while on Zoloft and am currently on my second (viable) pregnancy while still taking it. All is going well! My OB, RE, MFM and psychiatrist all encouraged me to keep taking it from the get-go. I have never had a provider suggest otherwise. Plus, I never suffered a lick of PPD after my first even in spite of my extensive history of anxiety and I’m pretty sure I owe my mental health to Zoloft. It scares me that some providers are so uninformed. So many women are on antidepressants and other medications to support their mental health. Women’s health practitioners like OB/GYNs should be more well-versed in them for this reason. Best of luck to you!

Zoloft is safe during pregnancy. My doctor prescribed it to me because I was at a high risk for PPD & PPA

I don’t take it, but I know it’s by far the safest antidepressant on the mark during pregnancy! Tons of women take it!
