Is it unethical to consume true crime media?
I'm seeing a lot of criticism over the new Jeffery dahmer series on Netflix. Many people are saying shows like this are unethical to watch because it re-traumatizes victims families, and that content about murder should not be entertaining. I do personally watch a lot of true crime television, read books , listen to podcasts, etc. I always remind myself that these stories are real and tragic. I do agree that many people take it too far and make merch that glorifies murders, rapists and pedophiles and I think that is sick (for example I saw a shirt that said something like "eat me like dahmer"). I think some people need a reality check and need to be mindful, but I personally do not feel that overall true crime is unethical.
Do you think consuming true crime is unethical?
Do you think it's okay as long as you are mindful?
Or do you think it's just another genre that we shouldn't feel guilty about watching ?
