Anyone else not comfortable leaving their baby with their MIL?
My baby’s only 11 weeks old and my in laws are coming over all day Saturday. We see them every other week or so and I’ve seen my MIL with my baby, she’s good with him but she has the typical outdated ideas about childcare. My husband said I should use the time to go get errands done and have some ‘me time’ but I really am not comfortable leaving our baby with her. If we were leaving our baby with a babysitter we’d make sure they are cpr certified and have lots of experience, but my MIL has never taken a baby safety or cpr class and her experience is 30+ years old (husband is an only child). We wouldn’t trust a babysitter with those credentials so why would we trust my MIL?
We have rules against showing our baby screens like phones and tv and also we only give our baby milk (obviously) and MIL says ok but constantly questions these things and judges our American doctor and American methods (she’s from a different country which she believes to be superior to America) which makes me believe she’ll show him cartoons or feed him other food while she’s alone with him because she truly believes that’s the right thing to do.
I’ve left him with my mom but she works in an elementary school and is always around tiny kids and knows all the safety stuff.
Am I paranoid?
