How soon to hear a heartbeat?

How soon should you be able to hear a baby’s heartbeat? Do you get an ultrasound before 6 weeks or is it just certain doctors?

Most doctors don’t see you until 8 weeks. At that time I could hear the heartbeat and saw a little gummy bear baby

My ultrasound was at 9 weeks exactly, same day as my first prenatal appointment. I did not hear the heartbeat at any ultrasounds, they showed it/measured it on the screen but the first time I heard the heartbeat was at the doctors office at 13 weeks the doctor found it with a doppler.
