Can you be friends with your ex?

I (f, 20) broke up with my ex about 5 months ago after being together for about 2 years (1 long-distance, 1 in-person).

We’ve been into each other for the past 4 years, though, and neither of us had ever felt a connection like the one we had. He spoiled me and we went out to great restaurants, spent every day we could with each other, and had a great relationship in general but…

We ended up breaking up because there were so many double standards in the relationship, he became manipulative when things/opinions didn’t suit him, and I didn’t feel heard. I realized that I had been tolerating too much bullshit and that was only reinforcing the fact that how he was treating me when he was mad was “ok”.

After we broke up, he texted and called indefinitely and I had to block him off of 5 different platforms.

The last text I have from him is from about a month ago where he asks me to give him a call bc he still loves me.

He still means a lot to me even though I still stand by my reasons to end our relationship. Lately, I’ve had the urge to talk to him and be friends but I do not know if that is possible as we never experienced a dynamic outside our relationship.

Should I reach out / try to pursue a friendship ?
