Anyone’s kid ever take Bactrim before?

My son was prescribed Bactrim today for a really bad middle ear infection. I have read it’s a really strong antibiotic. Anyone have any experience with it? Any side effects? I got him probiotic yogurt drinks to take with it. 🙂

That's odd, that usually isn't the first course of treatment for that. Is he allergic to other antibiotics?

That’s a weird choice for an ear infection. I’d think Amoxicillin or Omnicef. My children haven’t had Bactrim, but I’m severely allergic to sulfa drugs. It’s a common allergy so keep an eye on your little and watch for reactions. 
I get open wounds/ulcers in my mouth and on the inside of my vagina. I can’t remember the reaction’s name, but it’s considered severe. I had to go to the ER.

I don’t think it was bactrim our son had, but he did fail the amoxicillin and cefdinir and had to have a third line antibiotic for one of his tricky ear infections. 
Probiotic is a good idea! Our kiddo did pretty well with the stronger antibiotics actually. 
If you haven’t already I would see if you can take him to an ENT- they were really helpful for our kiddo
