The myth of the 8 hour-sleep

I just read this BBC article.. and to me it makes a lot of sense..

I just don't know if it's absolutely achievable to have this kind of sleep schedule in the current modern world?

-please read this because it's absolutely interesting..

it makes sense. My kid never had a forced schedule and he sleeps exactly like what is suggested that used to be the natural to our bodies.

he has a first sleep, then plays (he's allowed to) then has a second sleep.

He doesn't yet have to get up in the morning (for school or daycare) and he goes to bed well in time.

my partner hasn't been consuming caffeine lately and he told me that he wakes up to pee now.. and whenever I wake up in the middle of the night, I feel more energized than whenever I had a full night's sleep.

@Casey

he sleeps from 8pm to 10am.

Not always but sometimes he'll wake up in the night and might play for about 30 minutes and then goes back to sleep all by himself. He disturbs no-one while doing this so we see no issue in it. It's not that his purpose is to wake up and play because he does have access to his toys all night long, yet only plays for a short while.

Idk if you've went out and read the article but according to the study our current "normalized" schedule might increase mental health issues like anxieties and depressions.

@Sarah

in the article they speak of biphasic sleep and they found (and quoted) several historic written sources where it appears to be absolutely normal practice and common sense to have biphasic sleep (they speak of first sleep and second sleep)
