Cold turkey weaning from the bottle, how you went succesful?

Going overseas for 2 months. Babe will turn 1 in few days. I don’t wanna give him whole after he weaned from the bottle. Not sure what to do or what steps to do.

We started but first weaning daytime bottle feeds. Basically just stoped them cold Turkey around his first birthday. But we still gave him a morning and bedtime bottle. 
After about a week or two of no daytime bottles we stopped the morning one, again cold Turkey. Then once he adjusted to that we stopped the bedtime one. The bedtime was the hardest, we did try giving him whole milk in a cup instead. In the end we stopped giving him milk in a cup at bedtime, he didn’t really care about the milk but just wanted the bottle lol, so he wasn’t actually drinking anything from the cup and would shove it away and look around for the bottle. That being said he still adjusted pretty quickly, there were a few nights of tears but within a week he seemed to not remember the bedtime bottle anymore. 
Not sure if this helps but that’s our experience!

The night of my daughters 1st birthday I just took the bottle & didn’t give it back. She didn’t cry for it at anything she just took to her sippy cup but we had started giving her the cup at 6months to get her used to it
