Almost 5 year old and huge tantrums 💥🚫😩
My son, R will be 5 in January, he is in his second year of UPK. Yesterday I attended my first parent-teacher conference.
R is excelling in academics but struggles with big feelings. This is no surprise to me, we work on this daily-gentle parenting, explaining and discussing our feelings when we are calm, how to stay calm etc… it’s always been the forefront of behavioral type issues in R.
At school he has a significant issue with losing any type of game. He throws a full on tantrum if he loses. There is no talking to him during these outbursts. It works him up so much that he will choose not to play games to avoid losing.
His teacher told me she is, “not very worried about him now at 4, but when he’s 10 and he loses a football game how will he react?”. I feel this statement was uncalled for considering he is indeed 4 and has many years to grow and learn.
Have any other mommas have or had similar experiences with there little one? Any pointers on how to encourage him and teach him that losing is okay!
Thank you in advance!
