When is the soonest I can take a test?

I had a slip up with my husband on the 16th of this month. I believe I ovulated the 14th. 
It is now 5 days before my projected period, and 8 DPO. Is it too soon to test? In the past I’ve gotten pregnant pretty easily and my family tends to get rowdy for thanksgiving. I was hoping to know before then if I’m good.

8DPO is most likely too early. If positive, then it’s confirmation, but a negative test would not rule out pregnancy. I would try to wait until at least Thanksgiving morning (10DPO)?

You can test next week. But if you really did ovulate on the 14th then the egg would have been long gone by the 16th.
