Should I fear eating deli meat during pregnancy?

So was really craving smoked turkey from the deli at the supermarket but I heard that it can sometimes harbor food borne illness that could also affect the baby.

Will cooking smoked turkey make it safe? Or should I not take the risk? Also my MIL said that delis are the most filthy places because you can’t rely on someone to change their gloves every time they deal with a customer and trust them with the amount of times they clean meat cutters. She said I should be the one to cook and prepare my own food throughout my pregnancy because I’m in control of how healthy my baby turns out and if anything happens I’ll regret it for the rest of my life. I don’t disagree with her because I prefer eating at home but lately I’m just not in the mood to cook
