Is labour near ?

Question

I’m a FTM, 37 weeks and have been having some menstrual type cramping and what I think is lightening crotch. Does this mean labour is near? I haven’t lost any mucus plug and I honestly don’t know if I’ve felt Braxton Hicks or not. 
I’ve heard lots about what labour may be feel like but being a FTM I’m so unsure and just chalk it all up to “my body must just be getting ready, it’s not labour yet”.

Some people don’t have any contractions or pains before labor starts, and some people have them sporadically for weeks, so it’s hard to tell you if labor is near. Well it’s near enough because you’re 37 weeks, but it’s impossible to predict if it’ll be a day or a month from now. Try to rest, relax, and enjoy the last little stretch.

i hated hearing this too but trust me, you’ll know! i was always like well wtf does that mean until i was in active labor and then i was like oooooh okay makes sense! for me i had contractions ALL day that would stop me dead in my tracks! i wouldn’t be able to breathe, talk or move until they passed. they slowly got more painful and closer together but i waited it out til my water broke at 2 am lol

My  labor started with period like cramps and that’s what they feel like for me until about 4-5cm and then things get intense. Both times. Key is if they keep getting stronger/hurting worse, last longer and get closer together get checked. Just random cramping might be Braxton hicks (Braxton hicks can hurt!!!!)

There’s no way to tell because everyone is so different. I was having contractions a minute apart & my water was about to break & I didnt even realize it was labor 🤷🏻‍♀️
