Traumatic birth story

Rebecca

Hello everyone my dec 22 baby boy decided to come dec 10th. I started to have contractions dec 8 but they were not consistent I did go to the hospital but they sent me home. Dec 9 around 5:30 they started to be consistent and could be timed about 10 mins apart we were at dinner and left. On the way home we got stuck in traffic and they started to get closer together. We then decided we should go straight to labor and delivery. We got there and I was 3cm contractions were about 5 mins apart. They checked again in an hr and I was 5 cm about 4 mins apart. They took me straight back to a room and they were setting everything up for me to deliver I was freaking out. I’ve never had a fast delivery. it was about 9 o clock and they said were prolly gonna have a baby before midnight. I progressed but they had to break my water around midnight. Then I was stuck at 9 1/2 cm and part of my cervix would not soften. He checked me once again around 2 and said oh she’s warm take her temperature. I had a fever 101.2. They immediately had labs done on me and I had developed chorioamnionitis. It was hell I was freezing I had an epidural that failed my body metabolizes pain medication really fast so I felt everything. At 4am they decided to do an emergency C-section because baby was not tolerating pictocin and I was still stuck at 9 1/2. The doctor had 2 other emergency’s come up so I was pushed back. Then shift change happened at 7 am. The new doctor was determined for me to have a vaginal delivery. They kept giving me pictocin monitoring the baby’s heart rate and I still was not progressing. Around 9am they had to stop the pictocin because baby was not tolerating it. They stopped it and just monitored for a little while. Meanwhile they were pumping me full of 7 different antibiotics to try to fight the chorioamnionitis. Finally around 12 am they decided for an emergency C-section baby’s heart rate was dropping and rising and in distress from the contractions. I also felt everything the whole time. I’ve had 2 previous vaginal deliveries also so feeling everything is expected since my body metabolizes the pain medication fast. They took me back to the OR I was scared to death because the epidural wears off so fast. The anesthesiologist numbed me as much as he could. They then started by the time they were pulling baby out I could feel everything. I’m crying to the anesthesiologist to please help me looking at my fiancé begging them to just be done. I remember going in and out of consciousness but I kept waking up and I could feel it. My fiancé said I would wake up and try to hit the doctor that was performing my C-section. I remember when they took him out I was crying is he ok? I heard a little cry. I waited for them to show him to me and they never did. I was crying is he ok is he ok. Then I felt the worst pain of my life the placenta wouldn’t detach so he was tugging and pulling and I could feel it all and then I was asleep. And then I woke up to them taking me to my room. I was crying my baby wasn’t with me. He got an infection in his lungs from the chorioamnionitis I think they waited to long just my opinion. Well I’m not going to lie after having 2 vaginal deliveries and now having a C-section Jesus Christ I do not want another one. I’ll have 50 vaginal deliveries before another C-section.

Baby boy was sent to the nicu he had to have antibiotics from the infection and put on oxygen. I’m happy to say after 5 days in the nicu my baby boy will be coming home after 24hrs he was able to come off oxygen I’ve never been so happy I have been very depressed and really down.
