Surgical abortion

So the entire time I was pregnant I had first day period cramps meaning they were awful & almost unbearable. I had a surgical abortion about a week ago (I was 8 weeks along) & they have still been as intense as they were before. I asked the doctor if that was normal & she asked me if i had any bleeding, as that could’ve been signs of miscarriage. I said no, she told me that I shouldn’t worry, it was my uterus growing.

Now, I’m a week post abortion & I’m still experiencing these intense cramps. I take pain meds, apply heat & lay down. It goes away for a little but comes right back. Is this normal? Had anyone else experienced this? I can’t find anything online that says high intensity cramps are normal or not. I’m concerned, I’ve never heard anyone talk about this & anyone I asked that knows someone that had one or has had one themselves, they don’t remember or don’t know. I understand that pain level is subjective & everyone has different tolerances but idk. I just don’t know if I should be concerned or not. I get these cramps at least a couple times a day.
