Do you get a real ultrasound and pictures every monthly appointment?
Today I had my second OB appointment. I’ve been so excited to see the baby because I haven’t seen her/him since I was 7 weeks and the baby was so small and in a weird position it wasn’t a very good picture. I thought I’d get a real ultrasound and pictures today at 12 weeks but my nurse practitioner said they won’t be doing another ultrasound until I’m 20 weeks. I’ve been so upset, crying all night because I just really wanted to see my baby and how big he or she got. My NP used the handheld ultrasound to check the heartbeat and showed me the baby for maybe 2 seconds. I got home and cried and cried (hello hormones lol). My fiancé called the office and asked if we could book an earlier ultrasound and they said they won’t do another before 20 weeks unless it’s medically necessary due to insurance not covering it and also mentioned something about it not being good for the baby. It’s my first child and I’m curious if this is how it goes for everyone or if it’s my OB in particular. They didn’t tell me I’d be waiting 3 months after my first ultrasound and I was shocked and disappointed. Im also curious how they know the baby is measuring properly over the course of 12 weeks in between ultrasound appointments without a real ultrasound. Is it normally like this?
