Should I feel a way?

I am haitian and every New Years, all Haitians have a delicious soup that we call Soup Joumou to represent and celebrate our freedom since 1804. I’ve been with my boyfriend for 4 years and he refuses to try it. He is American. Mean while I have coworkers and friends of different nationalities requesting bowls. I see other people significant others indulging in the soup because it is part of their partners culture. Should I feel a way because he wont even try the soup?

I think you can be sad or upset that he doesn’t want to partake. You can feel whichever way about it. But forcing him to eat something he really just doesn’t have an interest in, is wrong. Imagine if he made you eat something you absolutely were not interested in. It’s hurtful. I think it’s better to explain to him, hey I know you’re not interested in this food, can you tell me why? I don’t want to force you to eat it, I just want to understand you more as to why you don’t want to eat it—is it health related/religious? Is it a certain spice you don’t like? And then from there maybe you might learn he just doesn’t like a specific ingredient or flavor. Try to take a less personal approach to it and see what comes of it.
