Which doctor ?

If you had the option of choosing a primary MD who’s a younger woman that you really like and is really easy to talk to, understands black lingo, etc etc but she’s a newer MD (about 2-5 years) or choosing an older male doctor who has a bunch of knowledge from him reading research and his years (probably ~20 years) of experience. Which one would you choose?

Depends, is the older fellow easy to talk to? I think having a doctor who listens to their patients is more important than experience. A dr can have all the knowledge of the world, but if they don't listen to you, are they really able to use that experience to help you?

I always choose the doctor I find easier to talk to because I found over time they are more likely to listen to me and answer my questions. Also a newer practitioner is not always a bad thing, remember that they have gone through school more recently so may be more familiar with updated practices like trauma informed healthcare that older doctors had to learn in the field.

For me this honestly depends on how close the “older” doctor is to retirement. It took me years to find a cardiologist my father actually liked and then her retired 2 years later. Lesson learned!

It depends what I’m seeing them for. Just a general doctor? I’d go to the newer woman. Likely you’d just be seeing her for things like antibiotics for a sinus infection once a year. If it’s a specialist for a chronic issue though, I’d go with the experienced man.
