How long should I use progesterone cream for?

I’ve heard after 12 weeks is when the placenta starts to take over for progesterone production. However i’ve read a couple of articles of moms using it until 20 weeks and beyond which I don’t think will be necessary in my case. Do I use it until 12 weeks or through 12 weeks? My doctor said I can use it up to 14 weeks but also said it’s up to me and what i’m comfortable with :)
