What would you do if..

Question

So having watched one of ‘those’ shows. It got my friend and I debating on what we would do if put in the same position and then we said we would ask our husbands to see if they matched up with us. Then it got me wondering what people would do on a larger scale. So the question… 
If your child murdered someone would you..
1. Stand by them/help them cover it up 
2. Turn them in to face the consequences but still
maintain contact 
3. Disown them
4. None of the above/state your own outcome
This is purely to see the difference in people’s answers and rationalisations and to make people think. Let’s not get nasty with each other, if it’s not your kind of debate, move on

Depends on why they did it.

I’d highly encourage them to turn themselves in. If they didn’t, then I would turn them in. I’d help them obtain legal counsel and I would support them. I don’t know if there is anything my daughter could do for me to disown her. Of course, this is just what I think I would do. I don’t think any of us can ever really know what we would do in such intense circumstances.

2. But also depends really. Why did you kill said person, how was it done… so many things.

Self defense- I’m standing by them. Anything else, they’re going to prison.

I'm never a cut and dry type person. Did they murder someone who was sexually assaulting them, their little sister, (or years from now, their child)? I would help them cover it up and we never speak of it. Did they drink and drive and kill someone? I help them turn themselves in and obviously stay in contact. Even if they ended up being a serial killer I would still love them as I turned them in. My love for my children is unconditional.

What are “those” shows? Lol I wouldn’t disown them. Depending on the situation, I’d encourage them to turn themselves in or even do it myself if they refuse….but it would depend on why.

4.  It would entirely depend on the context and what happened.  
In different scenarios I could see myself doing 1, 2 or 3 or something else.  
In addition I could also see myself believing I would do one thing and then if it actually happened choosing to do something else entirely different from what I believed I would do.
