Can I get in trouble somehow??

Drea

This might sound a little confusing so I apologize in advanced but long story short, my ex FIL sold his car to me and my ex husband. At the time my ex had a license, I didn’t, and he never changed the car to his name, eventually my ex joined the navy, left me the car. Well we both agreed to sell the car, his dad was okay with that. I sold it to someone, got all his info and everything, said he went to the dmv to do the transfer to put it under his name. Well here we are a year later I get a toll letter in the mail with my fil’s name on it. I’m assuming the guy never changed the car to his name. Anyways, the original license plate is from Texas. The letter than came letter was a pay toll that needed to be paid and the license plate is on a different car. Either the license plate was stolen or the guy I sold the car to sold the car to someone else and drove the car to Texas? I have no clue whatsoever. My mom told me not to even worry about it because it’s not under my name but I’m just scared if something comes back to me somehow.

I do know where the guy works that I sold the car too so I thought maybe catching him at work and seeing what happened with the car or if the plates got stolen?
