Can you count on your partner??

Question

I love my husband but when he is home, he sleeps in until he wakes up and isn't part of the bedtime routine.... so im feeling a little imbalance because other than those two times, he works mostly and he's not here to help. When he is.... he watches her when she wants him or he will let me take a 30 minute shower and get dress time but other than that....i cant...rely on him. He gets an attitude or he won't or he will promise me a break but that was two months ago. He has woken up with her twice, in the last month, for 5-10minutes and then he is tapping me awake to get her.... is this normal????? I have a 9 year old but she is pretty independent.

It's only normal if you allow this behavior. This isn't allowed in my household. We both take care of the children and both take care of the house.

He of course should be helping but if your child is 9 she really should be a little more independent in the mornings like being able to get herself up, some simple breakfast, turn on the tv or do an activity herself until your both wake up. Do you have another child or just the 9yo? Kids that age usually don’t have to be watched so closely either and you should be able to shower and get ready at your leisure regardless of if he’s there or not.

My partners help out with our child and everything around the house. They are 100% involved with our child because that is their responsibility of being parents. We all have weekly chores and we rotate them so one person is not always stuck doing the same thing. 
Communicate with your partner about your wants and needs. Every relationship should have expectations and requirements.

As we are 🍒a family🍒 we both have advantages, rights, deeds and responsibilities to share and part equally. We are counting on each other anyway as we love and respect and support each other 💪🏿

My husband did this with our first, so we had to have a serious conversation about expectations. He helps out a lot with the kids now. On his days off we switch off “sleep in days” so the other can sleep in and the one up takes our oldest to school and hangs with our youngest. You have to have balance. It just about killed me when I was doing everything alone.

If you allow it, the behavior will continue. He’s a parent and needs to do some parenting. Why stay with someone if they don’t help?

If your child is 9, she should be able to handle a basic morning routine unassisted. You should both be able to sleep in if you want...win win
