When did you start baby shopping?

I’m 16 weeks with twins, and gender scan is in a few weeks and I’m just wondering when do you start shopping for them? I imagine twins would be born earlier, my singletons were born on time,   I already started buying baby formula and diapers next week, should I be getting premie and newborn diapers in case?

I would wait on formula (there are babies who need it now and you don’t know which kind your babies will need/be able to tolerate) and diapers. Not all diapers work on all kids - some brands will make one kid break out in a rash and others might leak on other kids no matter what you do. We bought 1 box of newborn size and 1 box of size before the twins were born. Then we only bought 1 box at a time (bought a box when we opened a box) so we never had too many of any size that they might have outgrown.
The only thing we stocked up on was wipes, I’d buy a box whenever we got groceries, stopped when the twins were born, and we didn’t have to buy anymore wipes until their 2nd birthday.

I would definitely hold off on formula until closer to when you expect them to be born. One reason odd because it expires and you want the expiration date to be as far off as possible so it doesn’t go to waste. Another reason is because of recalls. Recently there have been quite a few recalls and you don’t want to unknowingly have some that you bought a long time ago and not have realized it got recalled at some point when you weren’t paying attention. I’m on the US and my twins were unexpectedly born at 35 weeks. They needed to be in preemie formula for a bit, but then one twin got very constipated on it. So we had to switch her to a gentle formula and supplement with extra vitamins due to her prematurity. So, we would never have known that she’d need all that before she was born and would’ve wasted time collecting stuff we’d just have to return. My biggest advice would be to get two different colored bottle sets. I did this because another twin mom told me it would come in handy and it really really has. It is so easy to tell who has eaten how much and because our girls were and still are on different formulas it makes it so much easier to make sure we never mix up who gets which bottle. It’s been a life saver.
