Types of swaddles

Question

I have been doing some online shopping to prepare for my first baby, and the amount and types of swaddles feels overwhelming. What types are recommended for newborns? Is it okay if my baby doesn’t sleep in swaddle? I understand some babies don’t actually like a swaddle, but I want to be mindful of reducing SIDS. Any input on the Velcro ones? Many thanks!

My all time favorite swaddle is The Ollie swaddle. It's pricey but worth it. Otherwise these SwaddleMe swaddles are a bit cheaper and also work great. I prefer velcro swaddles because then they can't slip up over baby's face if done correctly.

I used Velcro swaddles for both of my girls for naps and bedtime. It’s definitely not required but lots of babies do sleep better swaddled.
Unless you are really good at wrapping them tightly, I don’t recommend swaddle blankets. If baby wiggles free they become a strangulation/suffocation risk.

My baby is 10 weeks now but when we left the hospital I took about 8 of the swaddles they provided us in the hospital. This is our first baby so even just having to swaddle was a learning lesson but we got it and for the first month we used them every night, during the day we would try to let her sleep without to get her use to it but sometimes she just needed that swaddle in order to feel that calmness and sleep. We have some of the strap ones but initially they were too big even if they said 0-3 months so we just used the other swaddles that were gifted to us since they were a bit bigger than the hospital ones and we were just more at ease using them. Now we have the dreamland weighted swaddle and she loves it so much. I think we lucked out as first time parent’s cuz she’s a sleeper at night and for the past 3/4 weeks she’s been sleeping throughout the night from 9pm to 8 am ish and we just wake her up around midnight or 1 am to do a last feeding before we go to sleep, but I definitely think that the swaddling helps a lot too!
Just go with the flow and see what works for ur baby:)

I recommend you to use swaddle. As you know swaddle can help baby sleeping and avoid moro reflect. Make sure baby hands are swaddled tightly because baby want feeling like in mom belly

I wouldn’t recommend not putting your baby in some sort of swaddle, since they have the newborn reflects, they will tend to wake themselves up, if not swaddled. My LO likes the the SwaddleMe (Velcro),  Aden & Anai (similar to the SwaddleMe but also has a zipper for easy access without having to unswaddle during night time changes) and the love to dream newborn swaddle (zips and has arms up).
I will also mention that babies do enjoy being swaddled because it mimics being in the womb and helps them feel safe. A baby may appear to not enjoy swaddling if they are not helped to relax.￼ I also wouldn’t recommend swaddle blankets because they can easily come undone which can lead to baby pulling the blanket over￼ their face posing a suffocation risk. However, I do have a couple on hand as light blankets during the summer. ￼

Ones like these were the easiest to use. Easy to unzip for diaper changes, no loud velcro sounds, no loose or falling off wraps. Transitions into a sleep sack. I also read once that wrapping swaddles too tight or incorrectly could cause their hips to be in the wrong position. So I just liked that with these types I knew I was doing it right because I wasn't doing the swaddling at all

Velcro.swaddles are good. Our youngest wasn't crazy about them and prefered the big muslin swaddles, but our oldest was an escape artist and the nurses called her Houdini. Velcro sawddles were the only things that kept her slightly in. We personally loved the muslin swaddles because they were so versatile. We used them as swaddles, burp cloths, light blanlets, sun shades, breastfeeding covers and more.

I can’t swaddle to save my life, and thankfully my son hated being swaddled, so this time around I’m just going to go with a zip up sleep sack haha

My 35 week preemie loves these. We have found that the Velcro noise starlets her and these zip and keep her snug. We usually have lightweight pajamas under them as well.

My baby loved being swaddled and I found the Velcro with the zipper on the bottom, the easiest swaddle even for changing diapers. You can buy one or two different ones and try them out. They are expensive, we bought some, took some from
The hospital and received some from friends. But again, he liked being swaddled and we kept a fan on to make sure he didn’t overheat for SIDS
