How do you know when a marriage is over?

I’m watching my friends go through a messy unhealthy marriage at the moment. She keeps asking me what she should do but I honestly think they are at the point of divorce. I’m not going to tell her what to do but I’m afraid her well being at this point. She is Christian so she will do everything to avoid divorce but from an outsider perspective it’s like they aren’t even married.
