What are your thoughts on taking an extended maternity leave?

Hey mamas! I'm considering taking an extended maternity leave and would love your input. Have any of you taken a longer leave? Share your experiences and insights on how it impacted your career, family, and well-being!

Where I’m at maternity leave is only 6 weeks, I didn’t work with my daughter and stopped working for two years after my son. Don’t plan on going back after maternity leave this time either.

Not sure what this means for where you are, as every country does it differently, but I'm in Canada and standard mat leave is about 1 year. I took an extended leave with my first, which was 18months, and I would absolutely recommend it. I was not comfortable with my barely one year old being in all day daycare just so I could go back to work. I was so happy to have all the time I could with him, because you can never get those moments back. I was beyond grateful to be in a position where that was possible too.
