Any tips for preparing for breastfeeding? What worked for you?

Calling all experienced mamas! We have some first-time moms here who would love to hear your advice on preparing for breastfeeding. From finding the right nursing bras to building a breastfeeding-friendly wardrobe, share your tips and tricks to help us get ready for this beautiful bonding experience!

Your milk can take ~4 days to come in, so don’t freak out you’re not producing enough. Here’s a could list of their stomach size comparison. Day 1 - cherry, day 3 - walnut, day 7 - apricot, one month - an egg. Their stomachs are very small, so they don’t need a lot. But Breastmilk digests faster, so they’ll be hungry more often! Welcome to cluster feeding. It doesn’t last forever, but it sucks and feels like baby is always eating.  
Clip nursing bras: can be loud, especially when baby falls asleep nursing. 
If you’re going to invest in nursing bras/clothing, don’t get rid of it until you’re done having kids, because you never know - and these items can be  EXPENSIVE. But honestly, you can use regular tank tops, bras, shirts, etc. Look at double layering shirts to make it easier. 
If you’re struggling to breastfeed, see a lactation consultant before you get too frustrated. Most insurance covers at least 1 visit. I saw one and needed a nipple shield for a few months and a different size flange for my pump. They’re EXTREMELY helpful. 
Try all of the different holds/positions because some babies just don’t like being nursed in the same position. And use a Boppy or some other support so you don’t kill your arms/back; especially if you have a big baby. 
Drink more water than you think you need. And EAT! Breastfeeding takes a lot of energy. I drank a lot of coconut water (Bodyarmor drinks) and water. Keep your hydration and electrolytes up so you have energy. 
Be patient with yourself. Especially if you’re a first time mom. The 4th trimester is real. For the first 3 months, you’re all just in survival mode. Don’t worry about your chores, etc. They’ll get done eventually. The most important thing is focusing on the baby and yourself ❤️
