Will I love my second baby?

Question

I’m pregnant with my second baby but can’t really figure out how I’m going to love him or her when I love my first one so much. Will my first one secretly be my favorite forever? What’s your experience?

I had this same fear when I was pregnant with my second. And we chose not to find out the gender which I feel made it worse in the long run because it made it harder to bond before birth. I got horrible postpartum depression and it took a few months to really bond with my second daughter and the whole time I really just felt bad for my first daughter. While pregnant I tried to soak up all the time of her being an only child while
It lasted. And if anything I feel the roles are reversed now and I love my second daughter so damn much and we have such a strong bond now. Not saying I love my first less of course but that fear of “will I love the next baby as much as the first” definitely seems more silly now in retrospect. But again, it’s totally normal. I’m now pregnant with my third and having the same fear again despite it all.

Oh man, this is my 5th kid and i STILL get scared of this! It’s crazy how my brain tells me i don’t have any more room for love, and then they arrive and my heart goes “oh! It’s you that i was waiting for” and just like that my capacity for love gets a whole person bigger. I always get freaked out that my family won’t feel the same after the baby- which makes me feel so sad because i LOVE my family dynamic right now- but then the baby is there and suddenly everything just feels right and like it was supposed to be! Your feelings are normal and valid, but don’t live in that fear. It’s going to be completely wonderful and perfect and you won’t understand how your heart can hold that much love, but it will! Especially when you see your kid’s relationship with each other. It’s heart melting!

It isn’t real yet. Being pregnant and holding your baby are different. It’s so weird but they are. You will surprise yourself with how much love you have in your heart, you don’t love either one less bc there’s two. You grow your love.

LMAO jk. Love them both the same and so very much! They're very different so it was surprisingly easy to love both with all my heart despite all the worries I had while pregnant!

I think nearly everyone feels like this. Myself and my husband included, we felt guilty to say it out loud, like it was somehow going to effect the unborn baby 😂. It’s the weirdest thing, you think you can’t possibly love another baby as much as that precious first one but oh my… my second baby is just equally my entire world. I love them both so much, they have such different personalities even though second baby is only 4 months, you can already tell. It’s like the love just doubles though, you don’t need to take any from your first to give to your second.. you just create a second dollop of love all for the next baby. It doesn’t really matter what you read though, I read all these posts but I didn’t relax until I felt it for myself.
