Did i do something wrong?

catherine

I got out of a toxic relationship (lasted 3 1/2 years) about two months ago. I’m also a freshman in college (18F) for reference. I went on a date with this guy, lets call him John. John took me out on a date about a month ago, and it was the best date. he opened every door for me, called me beautiful, etc. Before me and my ex broke up, John reached out to some mutal friends and told them he was interested in me. He literally waited for months until me and my ex broke up to pursue me.

Anyways, after the date we come back to my place and we had some drinks and he ends up staying over (i’m so dumb i know). we didn’t have sex, just made out and stuff like that. He starts coming over frequently after and tells me that he wants to treat me right, starts calling me babe, says i’m the prettiest girl he’s ever seen, stuff like that. A few weeks ago he tells me that he was told not to date his first year in college (then why take me out on a date??) and says he didn’t want to act out on his emotions instead of logic and get into a relationship with me and said “I don’t want to wake up in three weeks and be like dang I can’t take care of her anymore.”. He also said he doesn’t want to hurt me because I’m too sweet. That same night I found that he was active on tinder, which really hurt my feelings. I made an account after he told me all of that, and after he found my account he said he had mixed feelings about me being on the app. He also said he couldn’t afford to take me out every week (I told him I don’t expect weekly dates, I just enjoy his company)

It literally crushed me because I fell head over heels. Like I couldn’t eat the day before our date because I had butterflies and I still have butterflies when I think about him. He came over like two weeks ago and said “When am I going to take you out again?” and I told him that he knew I was free, he just needed to take me. He hasn’t asked me out.

Why would he say all of those things and then switch up? Did I do something? I can’t stop thinking about him.
