For those who are not close to your family, how are you planning on announcing it to them, if at all?
I'm not close to my family, long story but we're essentially low contact (just enough to keep the peace). I'm 9 weeks and have told some close friends already. We want to tell my partner's family over a dinner at a restaurant when I'm 12 weeks-ish and have an ultrasound pic we can show them. I was thinking of at least waiting until my 20-week anomaly scan before telling my parents. This way, if they try to convince me something will go wrong with the pregnancy, I can honestly tell them everyone is healthy and happy. At one point I also considered not telling them until after I give birth. That way they can't try and be controlling while I'm pregnant but there would be more drama for not telling them sooner. I live in a different country but I would also assume that as soon as they find out they will come visit me. I'm also not sure how to tell them. I was thinking maybe Zoom call with the parent I speak to more frequently and email to the parent I barely speak to anymore. Either way, however I tell them, there will be drama. Has anyone been in a similar situation and how did you deal with it?
