Anyone here who never used supplements on pregnancy?🤰
Hello everyone,
I wanna know if there’s anyone here who didn’t use folic acid or other supplements and had a healthy baby?
Each website I go through on pregnancy health is talking about how important folic acid is. But I’m so much worried about taking folic acid and my body can’t utilize it and block the natural folate I have from the food. There are ladies complaining about taking folic acid actually causes them to have a folate deficiency because their body can’t convert it to folate and it blocks the natural folate to be used by the body too.
I don’t think I have a genetic mutation (MTHFR) and it shouldn’t be an issue, but having a synthetic pills to protect something that naturally is supposed to be strong feels strange.
Our parents back in the time did not use those supplements and they gave birth to very healthy babies. Our food now is lower quality compared to what they had because of hormones etc I think but still, if a healthy diet is eaten, then not using folic acid shouldn’t be too scary.
I calculate to reach 500 mcg folate each day from natural food. Eating lots of green leaves and lentils (they are just too high on folate that it’s crazy), and have fruits, eggs, avocado, fish etc each day till my calculations reach up to 400-500. I’m still between week 4-5, so I don’t think I’m too late on starting folic acid but I don’t want to 😔 I don’t know what to do. I don’t use any medicines for around 2 years, only propolis for health and my body benefited so much from that I think. But I don’t want my baby to start their life with synthetic stuff from the very get-go.
My doctor prescribed me multivitamins (it was pre written in front of her so I suppose she gives it to everyone as a procedure) and it has folic acid on it. I don’t need fish oil or iron now(cause I eat fish like maybe 3 times a week), also I want to make a blood test before I take any of those.
As for folic acid, I think Solgar’s methyl folate is a good option. Even though my doctor is very pro folic acid, apparently methyl folate is also recommended by many doctors.
I’m sorry for this long post but if you read till the end, please let me know what do you think. This topic is giving me hard time since I learnt I’m pregnant and I need someone to talk to someone who goes through the same things so much
