I Need advice..
Hey
I am a 23 year old girl who lives in Berlin, Germany.
I am working as a cashier in a grocery store called “Edeka”. The thing is; I don’t work with the company directly, I work with a different company called “Adamski”. Adamski is a work-lending company. It lends its workers to all Edeka branches in the city. Whoever works for Adamski gets less payed than who works for Edeka directly. On top of that, the location of my workplace can change monthly and weekly. I get my schedules from Adamski and I have to wish to get somewhere near to me almost every week. Every week I have to deal with new colleagues, new costumers, new bosses, find out ways to get to the new location and new rules including the break system (when and how long I can take breaks for). This week I was sent to this new Edeka branch, and they have a law. Everyone has to tie their hair. I hate hate hate not having my hair open. I have long straight black hair and I just absolutely feel good having them open. I contacted my boss at Adamski and told them to change my location since this is a stupid law but they refused and said I have to do go there for another week since they need temporary workers. And I have to listen and follow their rules. I told my boss that this rule is stupid, no Edeka branch I worked for has ever had a problem with that. I even talked to the boss at the Edeka branch and he told me I HAVE TO TIE MY HAIR when I come back to work on Monday. I habe to work for 30 hours Next week. What do I do…?
And if you tell me “girl just tie your hair and calm down” please don’t even try.
I feel like this is a stupid law, it’s unnecessary. There was never any complaints about a cashier having her hair open. Every food Edeka sells is sealed and i have been working as a cashier for 4 month now and IT WAS NEVER EVER A PROBLEM. I will literally willing to lose my job over this. I feel like there should be a limit to things and we as employees should know the rules of the branch before going there. Maybe the rules of the new branch is something we don’t agree with.
My family and my friends are saying that I am just being stubborn but I am not. I have these “OCD”tendencies around my hair. If I were to work as a cook or in medical fields, I would understand this rule. But since I have been doing this job for the last few month with open hair, I just can’t respect it. I am so stressed out, on Monday I believe there will be a big discussion with the boss. Cause I am showing up with my hair untied and I won’t tie my FUCKING HAIR. Literally no costumers gives a shit. No hair has ever fallen in their groceries. I AM SO UPSET and I want to have the FREEDOM to wear my hair however I want as long as I am not working with open food or out of medical purposes. What would you do in my situation.
