Babygirl home finally. NICU

Br

We were admitted to our delivering hospital the 10th had baby girl 5:08am the 11th. She was admitted to the nicu on the 15th and finally came home the 19th at 2pm. We had her home one night and at 10am the 20th went to the pediatrician. There her temperature was low and we were sent to the closest childrens hospital(not our delivery hospital). She underwent a crazy amount of testing that rattled me for 3 days. 3 tries to get an iv line in, a spinal tap, catheter for urinalysis, flu, covid, RSV, HSV, staph, MRSA, strep testing, and 3 blood cultures. Everything thankfully came back negative. They think she was just small and early. She went straight into a radiant heat bassinet, once transferred to NICU was in an incubator from 4pm the 20th until midnight. Her temps were finally okay and she stayed in an open bassinet for the next 3 days until discharged the 23rd at 8pm. WHY WHY WHY are parents not thought of in the NICU especially mothers who want to exclusively breastfeed. Again I spent a night sleeping in a recliner until they transferred us to inpatient where I had a bed to sleep on in my babys room!! I was so happy to finally have a space to lie down and not have to leave my baby. Thankfully they are making progress as theyre building a NICU with plenty of room for parents to bed in room with their babies but it wont be finished for 3 to 5 years. God bless whoever realized that. I was not about to be forced into pumping, or formula feeding when there was no reason I couldnt breastfeed. I suffered many nights for my beautiful baby and wouldnt have it any other way. I survived. My daughter survived. My husband and 5 year old missed us but survived through it all. So thankful to finally have her home and healthy regardless. Forever thankful to all those who work in NICUs. Pediatrician appointment tomorrow to make sure shes gaining weight properly and fingers crossed! Umbilical cord hanging on by a thread. Im so in love with my children, I would do literally anything for them. Hoping the rest hanging in this month have an easier time than I did this past month! And peep the IV scab from where it was finally placed.
