Pantry Mothsđ«
I noticed about 2 months ago we had an abnormal amount of moths in the home, but didnât think anything of it as it wasnât uncommon in this weather.
I saw larvae all over the kitchen roof (which I previously didnât see due to not wearing my glasses at home), turns out my housemates have ânoticed for several weeksâ that there have been larvae infesting food in the pantry and theyâve just been throwing out the infested food without doing anything else nor mentioning to me that this was happening (because Iâve already verbalised an issue with level of cleanliness in this house, they âdidnât want me to stress about itâ). I donât often use pantry food, so I never knew.
Iâm now trying so, so hard to get rid of this pantry moth infestation, but Iâm at a loss. I threw out anything that had any moths, larvae or eggs on the outside and/or inside of it, thoroughly wiped down every single item that âsurvivedâ the infestation, flooded and scrubbed every surface in the cupboard with dish soap and water (twice), sprayed it down 3 times with bug spray, got rid of the larvae, moths and nests from around the house that migrated, silicone-sealed any holes and gaps in the cupboard. But they still re-appear? Iâm at a loss. Is it a gradual process of re-cleaning this everyday until it stops? Or is there something else I should also be doing? Iâve never had this happen before. Iâve lost hundreds of dollars worth of stuff to this.
I used to keep my house spotless (even skirting boards were regularly dusted). These âhousematesâ are people who have temporarily moved in (for another 6 months) with my partner and I, there have been countless different bug infestations since they moved in. Iâve given SEVERAL gentle reminders that there is an expectation I hold my home to, they moved in knowing these expectations anyway. Iâve said before that I donât mind cleaning, but to please not make my job actively more difficult. I donât expect anyone else to mop, sweep, dust, scrub, roll towels & linen, etc, but I do expect people to clean their own basic messes (uneaten food goes in the bin, wiping up spills, dirty dishes go into the dishwasher, all of which hasnât been happening at all). I understand pantry moths arenât anyoneâs âfaultâ, but had I been made aware when they first saw larvae, I feel like this issue wouldnât be such a huge effort. Iâve spent over 15 hours cleaning, re-sealing and re-cleaning in the last 2 days alone to try and rid of this on my own, Iâm so tired, there has to be an easier way. I work full-time, Iâm about to start a double-degree in less than a week, I just donât have the time or energy for any of this anymore.
