Why would a mom say this to their child?
So the other day I was sharing a story with some friends and as I was telling it I realized how odd it was.
The scene: I was 17 years old and my mom took me to the salon to get my hair done. I’d always wanted my eyebrows done but she would never take me. So in the early 2000s I had mishaped thick eyebrows. I got teased all the time for them.
So we went to get my haircut and her boyfriend’s aunt was the stylist. After washing my hair they said they were going to do my eyebrows. I was super excited. The got the wax out, put it on and placed the paper. She then asked if my mom wanted to be the one to pull them off. They all left and my mom giddily came over. She grabbed one and before she did she said “this is for all of the times you’ve pissed me off” and then ripped it. It hurt so bad back as you know that first waxing is more painful because the roots are bigger. Then she ripped the other one off. Everyone laughed after.
I always told it like it was a funny story but my friends all looked at me so sad when I finished telling it. My one told me that that’s not a normal thing for a parent to say to their kid before inflicting something painful on them. “Who says that to their child?” Now mind you it was just waxing. But now that I think about it, it goes with other reasons I don’t have a relationship with her at all. I have a daughter and I could imagine saying something like that or hurting her in any way, big or small.
