Stopped birth control

Hi friends!! I have been on birth control since I was 17. I am now 20 and just stopped taking it because I felt so irritated, bloated, and I had a low sex drive. I am not trying to get pregnant currently. While I was on birth control me and my husband wouldn't use condoms, he would pull-out. Very rarely would he cum in me because we still were trying to prevent pregnancy. Is there any extra precautions I should be taking now? Obviously him cuming in me now is a big no since I am not on the pill. Do you ladies who aren't on birth control use condoms during sex or just when he is about to finish he puts it on? Sorry to sound uneducated, I have been on birth control since the first time I had sex so not having that form of protection is very new to me and I'm trying to navigate how to be safe without it. I've also heard of others who track their cycles and that helps to be safe? Thank you in advance.
