Is it weird that I am sad about this

My son starts preschool Monday, and I wanted to take him shopping for school clothes and some school supplies even though he probably doesn’t need them lol and since the father of my child has visitation rights he gets him Sunday . But I asked him if he wanted him this weekend meaning Friday through Sunday so I can take him to school Monday, he told me no he can take him to school on his first day I don’t know I feel like I am getting robbed of this special day
