Deceitful (birth control)

My husband and I recently had a conversation about birth control.( I am not on birth control) During our coversation he mentioned if I chose to go on birth control that that was ultimatly my decision and there would be no need to tell him that I was taking birth control to prevent pregnancy. I told him that this to me felt deceitful and lacked communication and that a married couple should always discuss this type of decision (to go on birth control) together. My question is .. as a woman if you are dating/ in a relationship/married and are not on birthcontrol but then choose to go on birth control should this be discussed with you partner?
